Why an ATS Auto-Rejects Your CV (and How to Pass)

An Applicant Tracking System (ATS) parses your CV into fields before a recruiter ever opens it. If it cannot read your file cleanly, you are rejected without a human glance — no matter how strong your experience is.

What trips the filter

• Tables and multi-column layouts — the parser reads them out of order
• Text inside images or graphics — invisible to the ATS
• Non-standard section headings the parser cannot map
• Missing keywords from the job description
• Unusual fonts or special characters in your header

Format to pass

Use a single-column layout, standard headings (Summary, Experience, Skills, Education), a common font, and a PDF or DOCX file. Keep your name and contact details as plain text, not inside a logo or image.

Match the keywords

ATS keyword filters match exact terms. Mirror the language of the job posting — if it asks for "stakeholder management", use that phrase, not a synonym. Put real skills in a dedicated Skills section.

Then earn the human read
